SAN FRANCISCO, CA—When Americans began to migrate west, Zinfandel vines were brought along in the back of covered wagons and horse drawn carts to help establish the ranches, farms, and vineyards of homesteaders and settlers. Zinfandel proved to be one of the heartiest and most tenacious vines of the day. But over the decades other varietals, perceived as more “aristocratic” came into favor, pushing Zinfandel aside.

Twenty-five years ago a group of dedicated devotees of Zinfandel formed an alliance to promote what they felt was an underappreciated American heritage grape. They set out to spread the word that this was America’s own grape – the grape that helped settle the West – and that it should be celebrated and its characteristics praised.

Great strides have been made since then and now it’s time to celebrate those original devotees of Zinfandel and their collective achievements with a wonderful party.

Guests can expect such tempting food treats as: grilled cheese with Zin-berry mostarda, duck mole tostadas, and wild boar sausage or paté presented by City College of San Francisco. Plus, those ever-popular Lamb Lollipops presented by Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse.
