Flamingo Resort Hotel in Santa Rosa - Sonoma Wine Country Under The Radar

SANTA ROSA, CA—In 1957 a gala bash marked the opening of the Flamingo in Santa Rosa — a romantic wine country resort designed by Los Angeles architect George Vernon Russell. The "modernist" design of the late 1950s mirrored that of the famed Flamingo Las Vegas, including curving glass walls, rugged stone walls, and a distinctive vertical tower bearing the iconic Flamingo logo. The resort quickly attracted glamorous types from Hollywood and Las Vegas as well as a host of celebrities from around the nation and the world. In more recent years, production crews have stayed at the Flamingo while working on Mumford, Bandits, The Five Year Engagement, and other films. The City of Santa Rosa declared the hotel a historic landmark in 1996.

Today’s Flamingo Conference Resort And Spa, remodeled in retro Miami Beach style in 2014, is a full-service destination resort, privately owned and operated by the Ehret family, also proprietors of Ehret Family Winery. The resort offers 170 rooms and suites along with a plethora of amenities, including:

• The Terrace Grille Restaurant and Bar (live music and dancing several nights a week)

• 15,000 feet of event space

• A HUGE pool area with 25-meter lap lanes, a wrap-around terrace and gardens, and standalone hot tub

• Access to the Flamingo Health Club and Spa with a full-service spa, tennis courts, 25-meter lap pool, and yoga, cycling, and other activities ($15 day use fee, additional fees for services)

The Flamingo Conference Resort And Spa is a Sonoma County "under the radar" pick by our editorial staff. Its remodeled rooms are quite spacious. The location is central for exploring the wineries of Sonoma Valley, Dry Creek Valley, and Alexander Valley. Plus, it's old school flavor is a refreshing break from the ultra-modern glass/steel architecture so often found in many of the region's newest resort hotels.
